Reconstruction of Westheimer, from Montrose to Main, Moves Forward
Council awarded a design contract to Walter P. Moore and Associates, Inc. for the design of improvements to Westheimer Rd/Elgin St, fromMontrose Blvd to Main St. The project will reconstruct 4,800 linear feet of the concrete roadway, providing underground storm sewer systems, new inlets, curbs, sidewalks, streetlights, traffic signals, and necessary underground utilities.The contract was originally awarded in 2017 but was delayed due to Hurricane Harvey. With this allocation, the project will move into Design Phase and construction is expected to commence in 2021. The reconstruction of Lower Westheimer, from Shepherd Dr to Montrose Blvd, remains high on Public Works’ Needs List in consideration for funding in upcoming years.
Budget Workshops Scheduled.
Mayor Turner will submit his proposed budget for FY2020, which begins July 1, 2019, on Tuesday, May 7th. Budget workshops are scheduled to commence Wednesday, May 8th and will continue through the end of the month. Each City department’s functionality and spending are being reviewed in preparation of passing a balanced budget before the beginning of the new fiscal year. During the first week of workshops, Council will review presentations from: Finance, the Mayor’s Office, Council Offices, General Services Division (which maintains the City’s buildings and facilities), Administration and Regulatory Affairs, Library, Planning and Development, and Neighborhoods. All budget workshop meetings are open to the public.
