Mayor Pro Tem Cohen Addresses Houston Youth Walkout
Mayor Pro Tem Cohen was proud to kick off the program for a rally at City Hall as part of the Houston Youth Walkout.
“You may not be the decision makers yet, but you will be soon,” she told a crowd of over 2000 student participants. “Register to vote as soon as you can, and vote like your life depends on it – because it absolutely does. I believe in you to take the destruction caused by gun violence and advocate for a better future for our country.”
Students from all over the Houston region joined the national movement, walking out of schools to protest gun violence.
On the Agenda
Council authorized the Houston Parks and Recreation Department to purchase a .88 acre lot at 6000 Main St, located in District H and adjacent to District C’s Heights community. The new park will conserve greenspace and increase recreational opportunities in this rapidly developing area.
Quality of Life Committee to Meet
Chair Cohen will convene a meeting of the Council Committee on Quality of Life on Wednesday, April 25th at 2PM in Council Chambers at City Hall. The agenda includes presentations from the Memorial Park Conservancy and from the Houston Parks and Recreation Department. All Committee meetings are open to the public and include the opportunity for public comment.
