Because of the support, communication, and participation from you, fellow Cohen supporters and District C residents, 2015 marked a year of great achievement for our community and for the City of Houston.
I’m pleased to report that we procured over $600 million in infrastructure improvement projects for District C over the next five years – the most of any district in the city. Upcoming projects include full reconstructions of W. Alabama St, Greenbriar St, the Yale St Bridge, TC Jester Blvd, and many others.
We made great strides to improve public safety in Houston by increasing the number of police cadet classes, implementing body cameras for officers, and improving community policing. My office is proud to partner with Houston Police Department by allocating $200,000 of our Council District Service Fund towards overtime patrol for communities throughout District C.
Last week marked the last Council Meeting of 2015 and the final meeting for outgoing Mayor Parker, Controller Green, and Council Members Costello, Bradford, Nguyen, Pennington, and Gonzalez. I am so appreciative of their guidance and perspectives throughout our years of service together and wish them well in their respective future endeavors.
Please note that the District C Office will be closed on Friday, January 1st in observance of New Year’s Day. Solid Waste services will be altered during the holiday and will resume a normal operating schedule by Monday, January 4th.
On January 4th, 2016 we begin a new term and will welcome Mayor-elect Sylvester Turner, Controller-elect Chris Brown, and Council Members-elect Mike Knox, Amanda Edwards, Steve Le, Greg Travis, and Karla Cisneros. I am also honored to accept Mayor-elect Turner’s appointment to serve as Mayor Pro Tem in his new administration. I look forward to working with the new administration and councilmembers to make Houston an even greater place to live.
I hope you’ll join me at this year’s Inauguration as I am sworn in to my third and final term representing District C. The ceremony is open to the public!
