A small park in one of Montrose’s historic neighborhoods celebrated some modern upgrades June 2.
Westmoreland Triangle Park, located at the intersection of Hawthorne Street and Burlington Street and managed by the Westmoreland Civic Association, underwent a series of renovations over the past three months with about $5,000 in financial assistance from local businesses and residents as well as a matching grant from the office of Ellen Cohen, the Houston City Council member for District C, through the city of Houston Department of Neighborhoods.
Changes to the 30-year-old park include landscaping improvements with native species, upgraded walking paths, new bird baths and pollinator stations for butterflies, and a Little Free Library for members of the community to exchange books. In addition to enjoying the new amenities, visitors can learn more about the history of the neighborhood, which has several homes dating back to the early 1900s.
