What’s Happening in the Annex
Mayor Pro Tem Cohen met with Janna Roberson and Taylor Kaminsky of Double Up Food Bucks, an organization that partners with private funders and USDA to double the value of SNAP (Lone Star Cards) spent on produce at participating farmers’ markets and grocery stores. The benefits are three-fold: low-income consumers eat more healthy food, local farmers gain new customers and make more money, and more food dollars stay in the local economy. Urban Harvest partnered to launch Double Up Food Bucks in Houston in April 2019, and the program is available at 11 locations throughout the city.
