Voter Registration Deadline Approaching
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 9th is the LAST DAY to register to vote in the November election. Eligible voters must print, complete, and mail in a physical copy of a Voter Registration Application to the Harris County Tax-Assessor Collector and Voter Registrar’s office. Applications and instructions can be downloaded online and physical copies of the application are available at your local US Post Office, library, high school, Texas Department of Public Safety site, and other government offices.
Quality of Life Committee Materials Available Online
Chair Cohen convened a meeting of the Council Committee on Quality of Life. Members received a presentation from the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center and from the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids on a cancer prevention proposal relating to limiting smokeless tobacco use by Houston’s professional athletes in our sports stadiums. The meeting is archived online via HTV (under the Committees & Commissions tab). The next Committee meeting is Wednesday, October 24th at 2PM in Council Chambers at City Hall.
Houston Recognizes Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month
Mayor Turner and Mayor Pro Tem Cohen proclaimed September 25th as “Ovarcome Teal Talk Day” in honor of Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. Joined by Ovarcomefounder Runsi Sen, Mayor Pro Tem Cohen noted that ovarian cancer is one of the most deadly cancers impacting women and transgender men. Unfortunately, no screening is currently available. Those interested in joining the fight to end ovarian cancer should contact Ovarcome.
