Cohen Ambassadors Gather for 2018 Meeting

Mayor Pro Tem Cohen hosted volunteers in the Cohen Ambassador Program (CAP) in Council Chambers at City Hall. The Ambassadors received presentations from Chief Recovery Officer Marvin Odum, Chief Resiliency Officer Steve Costello, and Department of Neighborhoods Director Takasha Francis relating to Houston’s recovery from Hurricane Harvey and initiatives to make our city more flood-resilient going forward.

Mayor Pro Tem Cohen created CAP in 2012 to ensure that each of District C’s over 70 civic clubs have a direct line of communication with City Hall. Residents interested in representing their neighborhoods in this program may email districtc@houstontx.gov.

Committee Reviews Expedited Plans for Memorial Park

Chair Cohen convened a meeting of the Council Committee on Quality of Life to discuss the Memorial Park Conservancy’s plan to expedite improvement projects within their Master Plan. Mayor Turner announced this week that this accelerated schedule is made possible by a generous $70M donation to Memorial Park from Houston philanthropists Nancy and Rich Kinder. This represents the largest greenspace donation in Houston’s history. The Houston Parks and Recreation Department and Houston Parks Board then shared updates on our city’s park and greenspace initiatives.
