Human Trafficking Awareness Month
The Houston City Council Public Safety Committee held its monthly meeting. Committee Vice Chair Cohen and her colleagues discussed September’s designation as the 7th Annual Human Trafficking Awareness Month in the City of Houston. Throughout September, the Houston Rescue & Restore Coalition will host events to empower the community to take action so we may identify, rescue, and restore survivors of modern-day slavery to freedom.
On the Agenda
Council appointed District C resident and business owner Monica Savino to serve on the Washington Avenue Corridor Advisory Committee, which oversees the Parking Benefit District pilot program in that area. Additionally, Council voted to confirm the new Board of Directors for the Houston Clean City Commission, including Shell Energy Analyst Ben Proler, who is also a District C constituent.

They met with Council Member Cohen to compare ideas on furthering the goal of eradicating abuse, and to discuss the laws, programs, and judicial safeguards to combat domestic and sexual violence in each country.
